In the peak of summer, flies and other insects can create a
real nuisance for home and business owners.
However, these problems can be reduced by using special insect mesh or
fly screens, which can greatly reduce the risk of insects accessing areas such
as lofts or garages. Certain businesses,
such as food preparation industries, need to take extra precautions to ensure
that the volume of flies entering the area are greatly reduced, as flies are
notorious for spreading germs and can have a negative impact on the hygiene
conditions.
The type of insect mesh will vary according to the size of
the pests which are to be excluded from the particular area. For example, specialist mesh should be used
to keep out mosquitos, as they are smaller than average flies and a finer mesh
will be needed. Different materials are
used for different insect meshes, such as stainless steel, aluminium and
fiberglass. It’s worth making sure the
most appropriate type of mesh is used for the individual circumstances, as different
materials have different advantages.
A fly screen made from aluminium or steel will be the most
durable and will probably last the longest.
Inevitably it also costs a little more to purchase than other types of
fly screen, however this may turn out to be economical in the long run as it
can withstand all weathers and can be used both internally and externally.
Fiberglass is a cheaper option, though ideally this should only
be used for indoor purposes. It can tear
fairly easily and its life span is not expected to be as long as a fly screen
which is made from metal. However, it is
suitable for indoor use and is very effective at keeping out flies and
wasps. Choosing a woven version of the
fly screen means that it can be easily cut and bent into shape.
There also meshes available which can keep out mice and
rats, which are commonly used in catering organisations as the risk of being
infested with rodents can be fairly high.
Here at Weld Mesh we offer a wide range of fly screens and insect mesh
which can be purchased by the roll.
